Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!
I am looking forward to working with each of you this year in World Literature and AP English Literature.
World Literature students: Just one year ago, you were sitting in your classrooms at E Cubed Academy for the first time, wide-eyed and probably wondering just what this school would be all about.
Now you're Sophomores- do you know what that word means?
Here is a definition from the Online Etymology Dictionary: sophomore 1680s, "student in the second year of university study," lit. "arguer," altered from sophumer (1650s, from sophume, archaic variant form of sophism), probably by influence of folk etymology derivation from Gk. sophos "wise" + moros "foolish, dull." "Wise" "Fool"-
Why do you think a second year student would be called this?
